Frequently
Asked
Questions
What does a Naturopath do?
Our functional medicine trained naturopaths in Melbourne investigate the factors contributing to your health concerns through a deeply investigative, holistic, and personalised approach. They take time to ask about your lifestyle, symptoms, health history, and more – using advanced testing from the world’s leading labs.
This allows us to identify imbalances or dysfunctions contributing to your condition. Treatment plans often include diet changes, environmental tweaks, sleep and stress strategies, and when needed, natural medicines and herbs to bring your body back into balance.
When should I see a Naturopath?
Our Melbourne naturopaths work with people who’ve tried quick fixes or haven’t found lasting relief. Whether you’re dealing with chronic skin, thyroid, digestive, or hormonal issues – or complex cases like diabetes or cardiovascular concerns – we take the time to investigate thoroughly.
We focus on your full story, not just symptoms, so we can create a treatment plan based on what’s truly driving your health concerns. Our results-focused approach is designed to help you reclaim balance and vitality.
What can I expect during my initial Naturopath consultation with Melbourne Functional Medicine?
In your first consultation, your practitioner will explore your health history alongside your environment, lifestyle, diet, family history, stress, and more. Your naturopath will begin making connections between the different factors influencing your health.
Next, they’ll outline your tailored plan and recommend any further investigations needed to finalise your treatment approach, and discuss the best ways to support to get lasting results.

What conditions can a naturopath help with?
A naturopath can support a wide range of chronic health issues – from gut imbalances and fatigue to hormone, thyroid, skin, and immune conditions.
At Melbourne Functional Medicine, our naturopaths frequently help people dealing with:
- Digestive problems like bloating, IBS, or reflux
- Thyroid issues such as Hashimoto’s or hypothyroidism
- Women’s health (e.g. perimenopause, PCOS)
- Skin conditions like acne, eczema, or psoriasis
- Autoimmune conditions and chronic inflammation
- Low energy, poor sleep, or frequent illness
By combining holistic principles with functional testing, our team works to uncover root causes and create tailored, science-backed care plans that drive meaningful change – not just symptom relief.
Why choose Melbourne Functional Medicine as your Naturopath in Melbourne?
We pride ourselves on clinical excellence and innovative delivery of functional medicine in Australia and have received over 140 5-star reviews on Google from patients who have improved their health through our approach.
Trained in both functional medicine and naturopathy, we offer access to the best naturopaths, use the latest scientific insights and clinical tools to comprehensively investigate the root cause and any other factors contributing to your health condition.
In addition to the healthcare you’ll receive from your naturopath, we recognise that most people need support to make changes to their diet and lifestyle – not only overcoming personal barriers, but the ‘how and why’ of such changes. This is why we partner you with a health coach in our signature program, who will help you navigate your path back to feeling well again with more clarity and ease.
This fresh approach to healthcare is unique to our clinic and consistently achieves incredible results. To find out more about what past patients have to say about us, visit our success stories page.
Can I book a telehealth naturopath appointment if I live outside Melbourne?
Whether you live in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart or a rural area, you can still access our Melbourne-based naturopaths via secure telehealth appointments. You’ll receive the same personalised care, testing recommendations, and ongoing coaching support from the comfort of your home. We work with patients nationwide and internationally, so distance is never a barrier to better health.
What training and qualifications do your Melbourne naturopaths have?
All of our naturopaths are degree-qualified with Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) qualifications and extensive clinical experience. They’re also members of recognised associations such as the NHAA (Naturopaths & Herbalists Association of Australia) or ANTA (Australian Natural Therapists Association). In addition to this, they’ve received further training in functional medicine – giving them the tools to blend traditional naturopathic care with modern diagnostic and systems biology insights.

Does health insurance cover naturopath consultations?
While Medicare doesn’t currently cover naturopath consultations, some private health insurers with extras cover may offer partial rebates for services provided by degree-qualified, association-registered naturopaths. We’ll provide detailed receipts after each session so you can easily submit a claim.
We also recommend checking directly with your provider to confirm what’s included in your current policy.
